University and Higher Education Departments of Music Studies with pages in the Internet

The first Department of Music Studies in Greece was founded in the academic year 1985 - 1986, in the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Six years later, in 1991, the Ionian University founds the Department of Music Studies in Corfu. The subjects offered in these departments are mostly theoretical. The department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, founded in the academic year 1998 - 1989, has a more practice-oriented program.

Music Departments in Higher Education were founded in Greece in 1999 within the frame of the educational reform applied by Gerasimos Arsenis, Minister of Education at the time. These departments covered various music fields, like sound technology, musical instruments and folk and traditional music. These departments are: Music Technology and Acoustics Department of the Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Crete, the Department of Sound Technology and Musical Instruments of the Ionian Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) and the Department of Traditional Music of the Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Epirus.
